North End
The North End is a mostly residential neighbourhood immediately north of downtown Hamilton. It runs from the rail line north to Hamilton Harbour, which wraps its north and west sides, with Wellington Street on the east.
It’s one of the oldest parts of the city and home to much of Hamilton’s waterfront parkland, including Bayfront Park and Pier 4 Park. HMCS Haida, a National Historic Site, is docked here.

North End
Waterfront Parks
Bayfront Park and Pier 4 Park sit on the harbour, and HMCS Haida, a National Historic Site, is docked in the neighbourhood.
West Harbour GO
West Harbour GO station, at 353 James Street North on the Lakeshore West line, opened in 2015 at the neighbourhood’s southern end.
Pier 8
The City of Hamilton is redeveloping Pier 8 on the West Harbour waterfront into a mixed-use community with homes, commercial space and public open space.
Next to Downtown
The North End starts just north of downtown, and James Street North runs through it from the rail line to the harbour. Jackie Washington Rotary Park is in its southeast corner.
Older Homes
If you’re looking at an older home, ask about the wiring, plumbing and water service pipe. The City of Hamilton says about 20,000 Hamilton homes built before 1955 may have a lead water service pipe, and offers a free inspection and a replacement loan. Its Protective Plumbing Program offers a grant toward a backwater valve.
